Yesterday, I was lucky enough to have worked Adam K0FFY, operating portable in US Virgin Islands as KP2/K0FFY, using RS-44 satellite. This is a nice QSO for me as I operate from my home with an X-30 vertical antenna from Diamond, which is a challenge due to extreme fading and weak signals.

Recently, I took a short excursion through the city of Guimarães with the objective of conducting a brief APRS test using my Kenwood TH-D75. The purpose of this test was to map the coverage areas of the Braga digipeater, CQ0PBR, which is installed on Mount Santa Marta at an elevation of 562 meters ASL.

Aware from the outset that the antenna is not yet in its final location due to certain technical constraints, I was fully conscious that, in lower and more obstructed areas without a direct line of sight to the digipeater, it would be exceedingly difficult for my packet to be relayed.

I started my HF Robust Packet experiments with my friend CT2IWW, Paulo.

Since I don’t have a TNC, I chose to use the WinRPR software, which emulates an SCS TNC (discontinued) and can be used with a sound card. In my case, I am operating with a Flex 6400M and I use Flexradio’s CAT and DAX system to receive and transmit. APRS software used was APRSIS32.

My first tests were carried out successfully in the 80 meter band.
